I studied for the full year at the University of Nottingham. They're actually changing it so you can only be in the quads until the end of your sophomore year anyways, so you won't have to worry about the dining halls for that long in the grand scheme of things. I mean sure, the "services" at UA aren't the same as eating in a Harvard dining hall, but once you're in a student apartment you won't even care. Was so happy once I finally got to Albany. I started off at a crappy private school in the city that I could only afford because they gave me a massive scholarship. But just remember, if you really are not enjoying yourself, you can transfer until the end of your sophomore year. Making a decision on where you want to spend the next 4 years is always daunting.

If you have any other questions about PoliSci feel free to ask! It will help you determine whether you're destined for international politics or domestic politics. I did a year, but semester programs are just fine and you can go to pretty much any country you can think of. That's another thing I would recommend - studying abroad. There's the College Reps, Dems, the radio group, Model EU/UN, etc. That was my one regret during my time here, but it was very difficult to get involved with groups since I was a transfer and then studied abroad after just one semester. There's also a lot of political-based groups on campus to get involved with. I really only had 1-2 professors in PoliSci at UAlbany who I consider to have been "bad" and if you want, PM me and I'll tell you who to avoid. The local Congressman here, Paul Tonko, is reachable and has a great intern program regardless of your political affiliation. I know several people who did the program and one is now a legislative director (making 42K right out of college ain't too shabby), one is a director of communications and one is working with the Senate Majority Leader's office. The Assembly/Senate internship is a must and is a great experience, not to mention you get paid. I assume you're in-state? In that regard, being a PoliSci major, there's no better SUNY school for it. Right on! Yes, there are some amazing opportunities.

Yes there are issues, but every school has them and I don't know anybody in my circle of people who has ever regretted going. So being a transfer I wouldn't say I had an "amazing" time, but I had a more than adequate college experienced that prepared me for real life. A lot of my groups of friends were groups of people who had known each other since orientation. Honestly, the one thing I regret? Not having spent all 4 years on campus since I couldn't get in as a freshman. I had amazing professors like Professor Christakis and some poor ones who I won't name. I graduated with a Political Science/Global Affairs degree and I am very content, especially considering the money I saved is now allowing me to go to pretty much any grad school I want. You will hear horror stories from every school just as you will hear amazing and incredible stories from every school.

I started in January 2012, lived on the quads for a semester, studied abroad for a year and then came back for 1.5 years to finish up and lived on Empire. But there are plenty of things to get involved with on campus, so really its all what you make of it.Įvery school is what you make of it. I don't hate UAlbany, but I also can't say I love it. I actually wanted to go to New Paltz, and got in, but I couldn't because they didn't have campus housing for transfer students. My boyfriend lived on campus, and I remember the resnet was actually decent, so wireless in the dorms should be fine. And it has nothing to do with traffic, because it's that way even when a semester isn't in session and the campus is largely empty. The wireless internet on campus is awful. And any good food that does exist in the campus center is wicked pricey. But from what I've heard, the food isn't so great. I'm a commuter, so I can't speak much about the dining services. What will your major be, out of curiosity? I've had a couple that were horrible, but I think those exist anywhere. Some of them are amazing, others not so much.
